Court-ordered mediation last Thursday by the Dispute Settlement Center resulted in an agreement between Carrboro Alderman Dan Coleman and Amanda Kotecki, a cross-country meet volunteer.
After a Sept. 5 incident at Hank Anderson Park, Kotecki testified to a magistrate that Coleman bumped her with his car after she had stopped traffic to protect runners as they crossed through the park. A magistrate issued a charge against Coleman for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
As a result of the mediation the charges have been dropped and Coleman agreed to issue the following statement:
“I apologize to Ms. Kotecki for hitting her with my car. I acknowledge the importance of the volunteer work she was doing in the park that day. And I recognize that when she put her hands on my car it was out of concern for the safety of the runners.
“I thank Ms. Kotecki for her willingness to talk this through and I thank the Dispute Settlement Center and the courts for making mediation available.â€
