Senior theater
The Prime Time Players company will present two one-act plays geared for a senior audience on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Robert and Pearl Seymour Center at 2551 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill. “Life Begins at Eighty†is a play by local writer Charles Stern and deals with themes of infirmity and companionship. A musical interlude by Village Review will set up the next play, a comedy called “Gin and Tonic,†involving a would-be Romeo. Admission is $5. For more information, call 968-2070. Â
Film screenings
On Saturday, December 8, at 7 p.m., local filmmaker Todd Tinkham will show his two latest films, Alexa and American Road. Tinkham recently won an award for cinematography at the Carrboro Film Festival. Also being shown are short films by Triangle filmmakers Jeffrey Moore and Agit Anthony Pren.
Admission to the show is $4, popcorn and soft drinks are free. The show is presented by the Carrboro Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with BeeryMedia.com and is part of a new monthly series called Century Center Cinema.
Christmas fiesta
Young members of local Latino advocacy group Pa’lante will throw a “Celebracion†outside of WCOM after the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 8. Attendees can expect homemade Hispanic food and games including piñatas and a raffle. Pa’lante members will sing Christmas carols in Spanish in the parade. They also produce an hour-long radio show on Fridays on WCOM 103.5 FM.
Burrito bash
The General Store Café in Pittsboro will host a Burrito Bash to benefit the Hispanic Liaison. From 6 to 7 p.m., free salsa dance lessons will be given to warm up for Saludos Company’s live performance at 7.
There will also be an auction of local arts and crafts. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and will include a burrito dinner. Tickets can be purchased at the Hispanic Liaison in Siler City or at the General Store Café. For more information, call 742-1448 or visit www.evhnc.org.
