A large green containment system downstream from downtown has been removed, and work to repair sewer infrastructure on and to the Wendy’s on Greensboro Street is complete, town officials said.
Carrboro Street Superintendent David Poythress said that a sewer lateral from Wendy’s to the main sanitary sewer line that runs underneath Greensboro Street was entirely replaced in the last phase of the effort to repair a leak that resulted in tens of thousands of gallons of sewage leaking into the town’s stormwater sewer system. Wendy’s crews already had replaced a corroded iron sewer line on the restaurant property.
Early in December, a temporary containment system was installed at the pipeout on Old Pittsboro Road to capture any residual that had yet to be flushed out of the system.
Poythress said the town is awaiting final analysis of the impact on the stormwater channel that runs down Old Pittsboro Road to Morgan Creek to see if there is any remediation that might need to be done on the channel.
