Ten Phillips Middle School students placed in the Central District Bandmasters Association auditions on Jan. 5 at Southwest Guilford Middle School.
In the Symphonic Band division, four students placed, including Li Zhang, sixth-chair clarinet; Anna Quercia-Thomas, tenth-chair clarinet; Justin Morrell, fourth-chair trumpet; and Jon Aycock, third-chair euphonium.
Five students placed in the Concert Band division, including Connie Zhong, fourth-chair clarinet; Claire Daaleman, ninth-chair clarinet; Nina Pande, eleventh-chair clarinet; Sangin Han, fifth-chair French horn; and Jasmine Sun, second-chair snare drum.
Both Morrell and Zhang will have the opportunity to audition for the North Carolina Honors Band in March.
All of the Phillips students will participate in band clinics Feb. 1-2 at Asheboro High School in Asheboro and in a concert at 3 p.m. on Feb. 2.
About 1,200 middle school students from central North Carolina auditioned in the contest.
