George Bush for torture. Yes, alas. And we stand by, in horror and in apathy. I speak for myself in this. I earlier organized a web revolt (Yes, I am revolted!) at the fact that we Americans condone torture – see tort.wikispaces.com. And I had planned on becoming a lot more active in promoting the revolt. But I have yet to go onto campus and distribute leaflets. What has happened?
Complacency, yes. How? Easy, just put it off to tomorrow. Because we know that tomorrow will bring a ban on torture by the US. Indeed, the next president of the United States will ban torture right away, it’s in the cards.
Our president has unfortunately opted to go with torture, but there is only less than a year left, not all that much time to do mischief. Poor Bush, he’s cooked. Meanwhile, the attitude is changing and we are headed to a more enlightened view of the world. At long last!
So, all in all, times are good. And apathy sets in. For now. That’s ok. The horror is short lived, we know.
