Letter: Voting for Ellie

Posted on April 17, 2008 by Staff

I am thrilled that our veteran senator, Ellie Kinnaird, has decided to run again for another term in the NC Senate. It takes a special kind of person and woman – a courageous, smart and assertive one – to tangle with the mostly male North Carolina Senate.

I am glad that Ellie cares about the issues I care about. She has been tireless on issues of the environment, open government and working families. Just a few examples — Ellie introduced a moratorium and tough new regulations on hog waste lagoons and stopped the southeastern states from dumping their nuclear waste in Chatham County. Ellie’s bill made one-stop early voting more convenient and, therefore, enfranchised many voters. Other achievements can be found at http://elliekinnaird.org.

Ellie’s seniority in the Senate is important to our interests. Ellie is ranking member of the Appropriations/Base Budget committee and co-chair of the subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety, one of the largest parts of our state budget.

Sen. Purcell says, “Senator Kinnaird has earned the respect of her colleagues for being an effective legislator who will fight for what she believes in.” I could not have said it better.

Join me in voting for Ellie Kinnaird for Senate in the May 6 primary.
