Three Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools freshmen will comprise the first North Carolina team to participate in the Euro-Challenge in New York, April 28-30.
Eva Archer and Nathalie Reilly of Chapel Hill High School and Emer O’Reilly of East Chapel Hill High will participate in the event, which is sponsored by the Delegation of the European Commission.
The Euro-Challenge is an academic competition to encourage American students to learn more about the European Union. Fifty teams are expected to compete for cash awards at the contest.
The team designed a 15-minute presentation for the contest addressing sluggish GDP growth in the EU, with a focus on Belgium, the nation in which their pen pals live.
The team was organized by Smith Middle School French teacher Robin McMahon.
