Wild weekend

Posted on April 24, 2008 by Staff

Might as well just bring a tent and a sleeping bag to the Town Commons next weekend.
The sequence of events goes like this:

Friday, May 2 — Arcade Fire, Superchunk rock show and rally for Obama
Saturday, May 3 — Farmers’ Market 30th Anniversary/First Really, Really Free Market of Spring
Sunday, May 4 — Carrboro Day

See what I mean?

If you’re going to any of these events, please consider using the excellent alternative means of arriving. No telling how the turnout is going to affect traffic on any of the three days, but rest assured that the most foolish thing you could try is to head down Main Street at the height of it all. The blocks in front of Town Hall promise to be spilling over with pedestrians and bicyclists. So if you do not have to put a motorized vehicle into that mix, then don’t.

Remember also, there’s a rescue squad and fire crew based on the street as well.

If you’re coming from out of town, the best route (always) is to drop the car off at a park-and-ride and let the fine folks at Chapel Hill Transit chauffer you in, free of charge.

You can check the schedules at the CHT website at www.townofchapelhill.org/transit for weekend times.

As for us locals, let’s try to be patient with our neighbors and our guests. After all, we’re gathering in the name of — respectively — democracy, local agriculture, sharing with others and our fair municipality.

So enjoy the heck out of the weekend. Listen to the music, get yourself some flowers or a tomato or five, give somebody something and celebrate your town in grand Carrboro style.

Thank goodness the following weekend we can all just kick back and enjoy a nice quiet Mother’s Day and UNC graduation.
