For the Record: Expensive commute

Posted on May 29, 2008 by Staff

That cracking sound you may have heard just before the Memorial Day weekend was gas prices around here breaking the $4 mark.

Right on the heels of that is news via Forbes that Raleigh commuters (we presume that means those of us who commute to and fro) face the second-worst commute in the country among small cities. To make matters worse, it compares things here to Atlanta and Dallas.

“Drivers spend 35 hours a year in traffic, yet only 11% carpool and just 2% use public transit or walk. This makes for an efficiency rating not far off from congested – and larger – Dallas.”
Don’t y’all who keep fighting public transit pull a muscle patting yourselves on the back.
