News Brief: Schools win grant

Posted on July 17, 2008 by Staff

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools recently received a 2008 Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant totaling more than $800,000 from the United States Department of Education. The grant will be awarded over three years, and is intended to strengthen the district’s physical education and activity programs.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is one of 98 school districts nationwide selected for the grant. The grant is aimed at helping schools make progress toward meeting state standards for PE for kindergarten through 12th-grade students by providing equipment and support for students, as well as funding for staff and teacher training and education.

The grant will allow students to benefit from new resources for PE instruction, such as climbing walls, circuit training equipment, heart rate monitors, and more. In addition, the funds will provide district PE teachers with the opportunity to attend professional development programs.
