News Brief: Campus robbery

Posted on July 31, 2008 by Staff

In response to a robbery on the pathway between Hill Hall and the Smith building on the UNC campus just after midnight Saturday, UNC warns students to be on high alert.

A 24-year-old man walking with his sister was grabbed from behind and shoved to the ground before a UNC public safety officer on foot patrol nearby came onto the scene and the suspect fled.

The suspect was described by police as a black male in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and wearing dark jeans and a dark T-shirt, possibly navy-blue in color. No additional descriptions were given and police said that no weapons were used in the robbery.

The university advises community members not to walk alone at night, to walk in well-lit areas and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
