Specialty dinner
Panzanella is taking reservations for its Aug. 18 farm dinner featuring Alex and Betsy Hitt of Peregrine Farms. Specialty peppers and tomatoes are sure to be on the menu. The dinner is from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Parties of six or more call 929-6626 to make a reservation.
Beer and a glass
Next Tuesday is Avery Brewery Pint Night at Tyler’s Taproom. Drink the beer, leave with the glass.
On the menu
Lots of summertime dishes to recommend. You can almost smell the season coming through in this app now at Lantern: Velvet Silver Queen corn soup with NC blue crab and scallions.
Crook’s Corner is saying summer with Cold Fried Chicken and a Picnic Plate, featuring potato salad, deviled eggs and watermelon.
Home cooking
Cliff’s has a pre-marinated al pastor (pork, pineapple, onions and a mild hot sauce) for $3.25 a pound. Cooks up nice — let it simmer for a while.
Just peachy
Peaches have hit the farmers’ markets. Last year was dismal due to a late frost and a lingering drought. Reports are that this year’s crop is splendid.
