The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, chartered by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1909, will turn 100 on May 4, 2009. To commemorate the district’s centennial, CHCCS will conduct a few events each month.
The celebration will kick off with the Back-to-School Convocation for staff members at Chapel Hill Bible Church on Wednesday. The convocation will focus on the district’s past, present and future. The past will be captured in a video production, while the present will be discussed through the vehicle of the district’s new strategic plan. The future will be discussed by keynote speaker David Warlick, a nationally-recognized expert in the area of technology and 21st century skills. Staff members will receive a commemorative pin and a copy of the strategic plan.
Students and families are encouraged to participate in the centennial celebration in a number of ways, and will receive a flyer that outlines the yearlong observation. The dates of activities will also be highlighted in the district’s parent calendar.
