ChathamArts will present Grassroots Stages, the fifth film in the “100-Mile Film Series: Sustainable Cinema,†Tuesday evening September 16th at 7:30 p.m. at the General Store and Café in Pittsboro. The series celebrates local films and filmmakers.
Pittsboro filmmaker, Mike O’Connell’s. “Grassroots Stages,†portrays the music and people behind the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival in Trumansburg, NY. The annual four-day festival has been raising money to fight AIDS for 15 years, and recently expanded to create the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival in Silk Hope, NC. Mike O’Connell and festival organizer, Jordan Puryear will be available after the film for discussion.
The Sustainable Cinema runs twice monthly on selected Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and 23, and Oct. 14 and 28, and at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 and 25, and Dec. 9 and 16. The series features documentaries and narrative films involving producers, directors, subjects and/or locations within 100 miles of Pittsboro.
Sustainable Cinema also will include two “Show Us Your Shorts†nights, featuring the best short films submitted by local talent. For information on submitting films, see www.chathamarts.org. Proceeds benefit ChathamArts. Suggested donation is $5.
