Aging in Stride 5K Run/Walk — Saturday, September 6, 2008 — 10am – UNC Bell Tower. Benefits the Frail Elderly Fund which buys services or supplies for frail seniors who have exhausted all other resources. Come out to walk, run or volunteer. Pre-registration (‘til Aug. 27) Ages 55 and Under: $17 Ages 55+: $7 Late Registration: $22 all ages

Mayan Books: Talking Gourds and Magic Spells in Chiapas, Mexico — Aug. 27, 5:45 p.m., Wilson Library. Free and open to the public. Ambar Past, founder of Taller Leñateros (“The Woodlanders’ Workshop”), will talk about Mayan bookmaking and the work of Taller Lenateros. Taller Leñateros is an artisan society of Mayan women and men in Chiapas who produce handmade paper, artists’ books, prints and natural dyes.
