Fire ant control

The Cooperative Extension Service will hold a meeting on identification and control of fire ants on farms and in landscapes on Oct. 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Schley Grange Building north of Hillsborough.

The extension office has recently received 25 calls regarding fire ants in pastures, hay fields and lawns. Steve Bambara, entomologist at N.C. State University, will discuss the effectiveness of various methods of treatment using pesticide applicators.

A $2 registration fee will be charged at the door. To register for the meeting, contact the cooperative extension office at 245-2050. The Schley Grange is located at 3416 Schley Road, about five miles north of Hillsborough.
