Sports briefs: UNC briefs 11/13/08

Posted on November 13, 2008 by Staff

Schedule trouble

On Saturday, UNC Basketball and Football will play at the same time for the first time in twenty years. Scheduling conflicts involving the renovation of Carmichael Auditorium and TV coverage of the football game forced the situation. ACC partners will cover the football game at 3:30 p.m. while Fox runs the basketball game at Penn at 4 p.m.

For the diehard fans (aren’t we all?) radio broadcasts of one game will be available at the other. Fans in the Smith Center can dial headsets to WCHL 1360 AM to hear Woody’s broadcast of the football game, while fans in College Park at Maryland can tune to 92.7 FM to hear the basketball play-by-play and commentary.

A basketball broadcast will be free online at tarheelblue.com and will also be replayed on WCHL on 8 p.m.

Museum

The Carolina Basketball Museum is now open. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. The museum is located on Skipper Bowles Drive next to the Smith Center. The museum will also be open at special times in the coming Saturdays, from 12 to 3 p.m. this Saturday before the basketball opener against Penn and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 before the N.C. State football game. Parking is $8 on gamedays in the Manning lot.

The museum houses photos, videos and statistics, along with tributes to coaches and various relics of Carolina basketball history.
