Several UNC students from Chapel Hill and Carrboro were recently inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and best-known academic honor society.
The society is open to students who have completed 75 hours of course work and have a grade point average of 3.85 or better on a 4-point scale, and those who have completed 105 hours of course work and have a grade point average of 3.75. Less than 1 percent of all college students are eligible.
Local inductees include:
• Megan Kathleen Bookhout, daughter of David and Lynne Bookhout of Chapel Hill;
• Vivek Ram Chilukuri, son of Mohan and Vani Chilukuri of Chapel Hill;
• Matthew Joseph Garza of Chapel Hill;
• Margaret Katherine Hayslip, daughter of Warren and Margaret Hayslip of Carrboro;
• Jacob Aaron Mader, son of John and Anne Mader of Chapel Hill;
• Kelly Marie Shackelford, daughter of Doug and Ann Shackelford of Chapel Hill; and
• Amy Christine Stelling, daughter of William and Judith Stelling of Chapel Hill.
