Chapel Hill Police apprehended Carlton Anthony Halliday over the weekend after he was positively identified as the suspect in an armed robbery at Colonial Village at Highland Hills Apartments.
On Dec. 17, a victim reported that at about 9 p.m. he saw the suspect, an old friend, and offered him a ride. The victim drove the suspect to the Colonial Village complex, where the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim, demanding his wallet and cell phone. The suspect then shot at the victim while he ran away to a friend’s house nearby, where he called 911.
Carrboro Police have charged Halliday, 21, with attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, larceny of a motor vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.
He is being held in Orange County Jail on $100,000 secured bond.
