Obituary: Mary Alice Renfro Beall

Posted on December 23, 2008 by Staff

Mary Alice Renfro Beall, age 62, of Chapel Hill, NC, died on Friday, December 12, 2008, following a brave battle with leukemia.

She was born on October 31, 1946 in Alexandria, VA, was raised in Florida, and has lived in Chapel Hill for the past 15 years. She was predeceased by her father, Leon Renfro of Boca Raton, FL. She was a graduate of Seacrest High School in Delray Beach, FL, and North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. After graduation, she worked for Operation Breakthrough, a non-profit community action agency in Durham.

She was a librarian in Stovall, NC, for many years and was active with the Granville Little Theatre group. Most recently, she was the branch manager for the Pittsboro Memorial Library until her recent retirement due to illness. Mary was an active member of the Triangle Area Mushroom Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Megan Beall Rosengarten of Norwalk, CT, and her mother, Mary Ann Renfro of Cocoa Beach, FL. She is also survived by her loving pets – her dog Sheila and kitty Roux.

Mary touched everyone that she met with her caring nature and great sense of humor. She was looking forward to becoming a grandmother and helping daughter Megan and her husband, Adom, plan for their first baby – due any day now.

Many thanks go out to the caring doctors and amazing nurses at UNC Hospital and to all of Mary’s friends for their support.
