Posted on January 15, 2009 by Staff

Several local events will celebrate President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration next week. Events include:

• The Orange County Barack Obama Inaugural Party will be held at the Carrboro Century Center on Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. The event will feature student presentations, musical entertainment and a rendition of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

• An inauguration dance party will be held at Southern Rail on Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $5 to $10 or a donation of canned goods for the “Yes We Cans” service project.

• A coalition of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools student organizations will sponsor a multi-generational inauguration viewing and dialogue on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Carrboro High School.
