Edgar Wesley Calloway, 82, of Clemmons, died unexpectedly following a stroke on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on March 4, 1926 in Winston-Salem to Pansy and Marvin Calloway, Sr. A veteran of World War II, he retired from the United States Postal Service after a 38-year career. He was a longtime member of Burkhead United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, where he was treasurer for several years, lay leader, lay delegate to the annual conference and held many leadership positions in the church.
He was a current member of the Clemmons Kiwanis Club, having been a past president and treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Surviving are his wife of 54½ years, Norma Cox Calloway; son Christopher Bryan Calloway of Carrboro; son Kevin Wesley Calloway, his wife, Denise, and granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Calloway of Nashville, N.C. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters, plus several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan. 23, at Burkhead United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kathie Sherrill.
