National Merit finalists

Thirty Chapel Hill-Carrboro students were selected as 2009 National Merit Scholarship Finalists and two students were selected as National Achievement Finalists.

Carrboro High School National Merit Finalists include Erin Harrington, Schyuler Klystra and Julianne Ragland. Carrboro High student Colby Isabel was selected as a National Achievement Finalist.

Chapel Hill High School National Merit Finalists are Sarah Anderson, Mary Ann Anstine, Julie Crimmins, Robert Gollmar, Mariana Hernandez, Andrew Hertzberg, Erin Humphries, Sara Outing, Ranjit Poonnen, Ellen Porter, Maria Van Aalst and Megan Westman.

East Chapel Hill High School National Merit Finalists are Alexandru Bacanu, Tyler Bench, Isabel Blue, Jennifer Huang, Bernard Jiang, Wujun Ke, Arthur Kim, Rebecca Lange, Rachel Liao, Charmaine Mutucamarana, Preetha Nandi, Thomas Price, Millie Rosen, Carter Ruff and Alan Toda-Ambaras. Monica Lallinger was selected as a National Achievement Finalist.

High school students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, a test taken by more than a million students each year. About 15,000 students are selected as National Merit Finalists. The National Achievement Scholarship Program serves as a competition for black high school students. Of 150,000 students enrolled in the program, about 1,300 are selected as finalists.
