County to sell four buildings

Posted on April 16, 2009 by Staff

The Orange County Board of Commissioners voted last week to sell four county surplus properties.

The properties are the Clerk of Court Annex, 112 N. Churton St., Hillsborough; the Graham Building, 118 N. Churton St., Hillsborough; the Homestead Community Center, Homestead Road, Chapel Hill; and the old ABC store, N.C. 49, Cedar Grove.

The board will seek appraisals for three of the four properties before selling them, which is part of the divestiture procedure the county uses to sell property.

The estimated combined tax value of the Clerk of Court Annex, the Graham Building and the Homestead Community Center is about $850,000. An estimated value of the old ABC store was not available.

How does this possibly make sense in the times we are in? Real estate isn’t selling. Hold on to it if you can until things are better, don’t sell at the bottom!
