Students win top awards

Several Chapel Hill-Carrboro students won honors at the 31st annual State Mathematics Competition at the North Carolina School of Science and Math on April 23.

Zijing Gao, an eighth grader at Smith Middle School, and Gray Symon, a sophomore at Chapel Hill High, both received certificates, book awards and $300 Art of Problem Solving Scholarships. Andrew Hertzberg, a senior at Chapel Hill High School, received a certificate and book award.

All three students placed in the top 15, earning them a spot on North Carolina’s American Regions Mathematics League Team.
