The Carrboro Board of Aldermen voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve plans for the town’s Home Program funds.
Home Program funds are allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with 25 percent matched by Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Orange County. The program was established to provide funding for various types of housing programs that target low-income families.
As proposed by the Home Program Review Committee, the funds — which are projected to total about $860,000 — will go to the InterFaith Council for Social Services, Habitat for Humanity’s Phoenix Place, Orange Person Chatham Mental Health Association, Chrysalis, Orange Community Housing and Land Trust, Housing for New Hope and Orange County Housing and Community Development.
In other town business, the board:
• approved proposed financing arrangements for the construction and development of the fire substation on Homestead Road;
• proclaimed May as Bike to Work Month in Carrboro;
• reappointed Albert Vickers as one of the town’s representatives to the Orange County Solid Waste Advisory Board; and
• appointed Mayor Mark Chilton as the board’s interim representative on the Chatham/Orange Joint Planning Task Force.
