Obituary: Robert Stanley Carter

Robert Stanley (Bob) Carter, 57, returned to his Maker on April 27, 2009. He was at home at the time of his death.

Born in Watts Hospital, Durham, on March 8, 1952 to Eva Doris Blackwood and Jesse C. (J. C.) Carter, Bob attended the Chapel Hill public schools, graduating in 1970. He received his B. A. in history from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, in 1976.

Bob was long employed by Rolane Outlets, serving, respectively, as store, area, and district manager. In recent years, he was employed by Lion’s Club Industries of Durham, and, until his health prevented, was most recently at The Appliance Center, Durham.

Surviving are his sister, Wynne Carter Thomas, and aunts, Melda Blackwood Oakley and Virginia Carter Moore, as well as numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eva Riggsbee and Winfield Scott Blackwood and Martha Wilder and Henry Rose Carter, as well as a nephew, Philip “J” Thomas.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ron Boswell. There will be a brief visitation at the funeral home following the services and at other times at the home of his sister on Jay Thomas Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27517, (919) 370-7094.
