Memorial Day events

Posted on May 21, 2009 by Staff

VFW and American Legion veterans will host a combined commemoration of Memorial Day this weekend. The event will begin on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. with the carpeting of Chapel Hill Cemetery with more than 500 flags. At 8 a.m., veterans will gather at the cemetery for a memorial ceremony.

On Monday, the groups will host a memorial service at 8 a.m. at the cemetery. Following the ceremony, the American Legion Post will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with veteran presentations beginning at 11 a.m. and an outdoor concert by the Village Band at 1 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Members of the community are invited to bring and display photographs of their family members serving in the military. Photos can be dropped off for mounting at Chapel Hill Magazine, 104-B N. Elliott Road, or posted at the ceremonies.
