Second H1N1 case in Orange County

Posted on June 4, 2009 by Staff

Last Friday, the State Public Health Laboratory notified Orange County Health Department of an Orange County resident with laboratory confirmed novel influenza A (H1N1), otherwise known as “swine flu.”

This marks the second confirmed case in Orange County and the 21st confirmed case in North Carolina.

Though there are limited specifics on the case, it is known that the person is an adult that is recovering and self-isolating at home. The person is not a healthcare worker and is unrelated to the first H1N1 case announced May 22 in Orange County.

The first case was a healthcare worker at a Durham clinic run by UNC Health Care. UNC officials announced last week that the employee has fully recovered after being diagnosed with a mild case of H1N1.
