Lochbaum to head licensing group

Posted on July 16, 2009 by Staff

Derek Lochbaum, director of trademarks and licensing at UNC, has been chosen as president for 2009-10 of the International Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA).

The association offers educational and networking opportunities, espouses acceptable operating standards and ethics and seeks to boost understanding of collegiate licensing.

“ICLA has become such a large part of the licensing profession over the past few years,” Lochbaum said. “It is an honor to be chosen to serve as its president.”

UNC policies control the use of its trademark language and logos. When businesses receive UNC’s approval to use these marks on items and apparel, the university shares in the proceeds through its trademark licensing program. At UNC, all net proceeds from the licensing program go toward scholarships.
