Obituary: Colette Ward Johnson

Colette Ward Johnson, 53, of White Cross Road, Chapel Hill, N.C., died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at UNC Hospitals after an extended illness. She was the beloved daughter of the late Jasper P. Ward and Octavia Ward Barefoot.

Colette was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are a special friend, David Moran of Chapel Hill; her sister, Louanne Ward Dillard (Donnie) of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, Kevin Ward of Chapel Hill; step-daughter, Nickie Turner; grandson, Donald Carver of Chapel Hill; two nieces, Casey Ward of Chapel Hill and Alexis Johnson of Fla.; two nephews, Tim Ward of Chapel Hill and Alex Johnson (Allison) of Fla.; and other extended family members and friends. In addition to Colette’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Johnson; brothers, Jasper P. Ward Jr. and Clifton Manley Ward; and a niece, Wendy Dixon Smith.

Colette will be remembered for her warm smile and friendly personality.
