Mr. James Woodrow “Pete†Thrift, 89, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at UNC Hospitals.
He was the only child of Pete and Callie Tripp Thrift and was born and educated in Chatham County.
Mr. Thrift was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chapel Hill but attended Ephesus Baptist Church with his landlords. He was active for many years in the Stepping Stone class. He also served the Prison Ministry Outreach program, cooking for the homeless and distributing Christian literature to the Murdoch Center, John Umstead Hospital in Butner and local nursing homes.
He worked as a farmer early in life then took care of the horses at Wonderland Farms and was a lumberman for the late W.J. Hay Jr., splitting and loading trucks with firewood.
