Work to restore McCauley Street between Pittsboro Street and UNC’s cogeneration facility will affect traffic and parking on McCauley for about two months, starting Aug. 17.
The work will be done in one-block segments, starting in the 400 block (closest to the cogeneration facility) and proceeding to the east.
During construction, including resurfacing the street, at least one traffic lane will remain open at all times and flaggers will direct two-way traffic. When construction is over for the day, normal two-lane, two-way traffic will resume, but overnight on-street parking will not be permitted in the block that is under construction. Overnight parking will be available to affected McCauley Street residents from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. in nearby university parking lots, like the one located off Wilson Court. McCauley Street residents also will not be able to use their driveways for at least one day and one night after the installation of concrete driveway aprons, to allow for proper curing of the concrete.
