Traffic changes on Hwy. 54

Posted on August 20, 2009 by Staff

Motorists should be aware of changes to the traffic signal on NC Hwy. 54 (Raleigh Road) at Hamilton Road. The changes include a flashing yellow arrow for left turns on N.C. 54 to notify left-turning motorists that they must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before turning.

The flashing yellow arrow traffic signals consist of four arrow lights that are used exclusively for left-turning traffic. The arrow traffic signals are separate from the traffic signals containing circular lights for through traffic.

A solid red arrow means stop. A solid yellow arrows means stop if it is safe to do so. A flashing yellow arrow means turns are permitted, but you must first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians must proceed with caution. A solid green arrow means turn left; oncoming traffic must stop.
