These are busy times at the North Carolina Botanical Garden with much of the activity focused on getting ready for the dedication garden’s new Visitor Education Center next month on University Day (Oct. 12).

This weekend the center will host Orange County’s environmental summit, which will feature the release of the county’s new State of the Environment report along with a discussion of the county’s environmental challenges. The focus of the summit is sustainable ground and surface water resources with a discussion of the county’s watershed by geography professor Lary Bland, director of the UNC Institute for the Environment.

Meanwhile, the garden starts its annual Sculpture in the Garden show with more than 50 works on the theme “Celebrating Life Forces” nestled among the garden’s native plan habitats. The show runs from Sept. 12 to Nov 15.

Also in store this weekend is one of the garden’s annual native plant sale. The fundraiser features thousands of plants potted up and ready for transport to your native habitat. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

Garden members are invited to drop by Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. for first-pick at the sale, light refreshments, and a preview of the Sculpture in the Garden exhibition
Hours, information, membership details and more are available at ncbg.unc.edu
