Obituary: Jane Rogers

Jane R Rogers, 81, died Monday at Carolina Meadows. Born in Honolulu, she lived 71 years in her beloved Chapel Hill, through childhood, college, young married life, child-rearing and retirement. A 1948 UNC graduate, she served on the student legislature, honor council, Pi Beta Phi sorority and Valkyries. She was graduate assistant to the dean of Bryn Mawr College.

Jane worked in chemistry and biology at UNC Hospital, UNC Family Medicine, the UNC Alumni Association, the UNC School of Medicine and the N.C. Rural Health Dept. She volunteered at the Junior League, church and the Chatham food bank.

She was president of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club and Chapel Hill Garden Club. The daughter of longtime Chapel Hill doctor Gaston Rogers and wife, Agnes, she is predeceased by her husband, Jack, and is survived by her sister, Anne H Rogers, of Chapel Hill, and her children, Parks Rogers of Charleston, S.C. and Beth R Tart of Charlotte. She has three adored grandchildren, Emery and Caroline Rogers and Michael Tart.
