Letter: A champion for all students

Posted on September 18, 2009 by Staff

As the former chair of the Special Needs Advisory Council (SNAC) and the mother of three children in the CHCCS district, one with special needs, I am thrilled that such a quality candidate as Michelle (Shell) Brownstein is running for our school board.

During the last few years, I have had both the privilege and pleasure of working side by side with Shell on many district projects. During that time, she has displayed incredible leadership skills, a hard-work ethic second to none and compassion for all children, both mainstream and special needs throughout the district. Her integrity is beyond reproach.

Shell Brownstein has advocated for our most “fragile learners,” the “gifted population,” typical and 2e, and, most importantly, for all the students in between. Shell has a unique ability to sift through the lines and labels that often separate one type of learner from another. As a result, she has helped parents and educators (invited speaker to DPI) across the state recognize that there are children with “special needs” across the spectrum.

Through seven years of supporting her four children in CHCCS’s district, Shell has found a passion for working in the education arena. In fact, not only has she worked in the classroom and at the district level, but also at the state level. How great is that! It is this depth of experience that makes her such a desirable candidate.

If you want to help to improve our school system, get out and vote for Michelle Brownstein! She will be an asset to our district!
