Kelly Sears, a science teacher at Smith Middle School, received a $1,400 grant from Donors Choose to support a project called “Taking the Pulse of Our Local Waterways.â€
Sears requested the grant to support the purchase of an AP Environmental Workstation Bundle. The equipment will be used by students in Sears’ eighth-grade science classes.
Sears says the equipment will provide her students with opportunities to develop problem-solving and technology skills. Students will use the equipment to conduct a long-term, hands-on water quality study that will include data analysis. Sears describes the activity as “an authentic scientific investigation.â€
Donors Choose is an online tool that allows teachers to post classroom needs for the public to read and support financially if they wish to do so.
