Chapel Hill Girl Scout wins award

Posted on October 1, 2009October 2, 2009 by Staff

Katherine A. Absher of Chapel Hill has received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, from the North Carolina Coastal Pines.
For her Gold Award project, Katherine studied Impressionist painters such as Seurat and Monet and painted a mural of a scene from Jordan Lake that was installed, with a mosaic border, at Northwood High School. Katherine says she was inspired and advised by local artist Sally Sutton.

Katherine is the daughter of Ron and Liz Absher of Chapel Hill and is a senior at Northwood High School. She has been in Girl Scouts since 1998 and is in Troop 54, led by Jane Kamar and Liz Absher. Katherine is a member of the National Art Society, the Northwood Acting Ensemble and percussion captain of the NHS Marching Band.
