Endorsement Letter: For Brownstein

Posted on October 1, 2009October 8, 2009 by Staff

I lead a parent-staff group in the CHCCS district that is dedicated to improving the educational process for some of our underserved children. Shell Brownstein has been a key contributor to this group. Through working closely with Shell, I have learned that she cares deeply about increasing accountability and consistency across the district and about improving district support for currently underserved students (such as exceptional students and minority students).

More importantly, Shell has demonstrated a strong ability to make change happen. This year, she led one of our group’s key initiatives, focusing on improving regular education teachers’ ability to support exceptional children. She started with this broad and ill-defined topic, was able to mobilize parent and staff energy to address that topic, led a team research effort that required her to listen deeply to the needs and concerns of teachers, passionately expressed her vision, guided the team’s development of powerful recommendations and influenced district leaders to endorse those recommendations.

Shell Brownstein’s ability to lead positive change in a way that engages the commitment of both parents and staff is a truly rare quality. For these reasons, I believe it is in all voters’ interest to elect Shell Brownstein to the CHCCS school board.
