The Carrboro High School Theater Department will present Elmer Rice’s 1923 classic play, The Adding Machine, Oct. 8-10 in Hanes Theatre at Chapel Hill High School. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults. Reserve tickets by emailing chsreservations@gmail.com.
The Adding Machine is generally considered to be the first American Expressionist play. The story focuses on Mr. Zero(junior Jon Shelton), an accountant at a large, faceless company. He discovers he will be replaced by an adding machine. In anger and pain, he snaps and kills his boss. The audience then follows Zero through trial, verdict and consequence.
