More than 4,000 people walked down Franklin Street on Saturday afternoon to show support for public education in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
The Public School Foundation’s Lucky 13th Annual Walk for Education raised more than $83,000 to support activities within the district’s schools.
Seawell Elementary won the spirit contest for its depiction of the school’s Critter Corner and won the contest for having the most walkers, with 426. Rashkis won the contest for the most funds raised. There was a tie for the top fundraising student between Nina Pande of East Chapel Hill High and Jay Pande of Smith Middle School.
