Endorsement Letter: Three for Chapel Hill

Posted on October 29, 2009 by Staff

Kleinschmidt for mayor, Harrison and Pease for council

I’m supporting the election of Mark Kleinschmidt as mayor of Chapel Hill. Over the 10 years I’ve served on town advisory boards, I’ve gotten to know Mark through his service on the town council. Mark is a very fair and thoughtful leader. He listens to people carefully and thinks ideas through before making a final decision. He is extremely fair in his dealing with citizens and he looks to find consensus in his management style. He will be a tough, fair and compassionate leader for Chapel Hill, qualities which I think will reflect well upon this community.

I’m also supporting the re-election of Ed Harrison and the election of Gene Pease to the town council. Ed has been a leader in advocating for a strong multi-modal transportation system in Chapel Hill, including not only transit but bike and pedestrian facilities as well. He has also been a staunch advocate for economic development while protecting both neighborhoods and the environment. Most importantly, Ed listens to citizens when they call and tries his best to help them.

I’ve gotten to know Gene through his service on town advisory boards, including the planning board, OWASA and a budget review committee. Gene has a keen business sense that will serve Chapel Hill well that is coupled with a strong sense of social responsibility. In these tough economic times, Gene will be able to help move Chapel Hill forward while continuing to preserve those aspects of Chapel Hill that we value so highly.
