First UNC Hospital School graduation

Posted on October 29, 2009 by Staff

Most students who attend the UNC Hospital School do so for a brief period and then return to their home schools. No student had ever graduated at the school until last Friday.

Ryan Frias was wrapping up his senior year at the Central Academy of Technology and Arts in Union County when he was involved in a car accident last December that left him with burns covering 80 percent of his body. As he recuperated at the North Carolina Jaycees Burn Center, he continued his studies at the Hospital School.

On Oct. 23, Central Academy Principal Rod Miller and other school staff members traveled to Chapel Hill to join Hospital School Principal Flicka Bateman, CHCCS Superintendent Neil Pedersen and members of the Frias Family for Ryan’s graduation.
