Eleanor Fitzpatrick Neyhart, 89, of the Carolina House of Chapel Hill, N.C. passed away peacefully Jan. 11, 2010 after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 10, 1920 in Lynn, Mass., Eleanor was the only child of William and Rita Fitzpatrick. Surrounded by a loving Irish-Catholic family, Eleanor’s childhood years were spent in Lynn and Ridgway, Pa. She attended Allegheny College and Pennsylvania State University, where she earned a degree in accounting in 1942. After completing her education, Eleanor was employed as one of the first female accountants at the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y. during the 1940s and 1950s. She spent most of her adult life in the Rochester area, where she married James Henry Neyhart of Rochester in 1957. They lived in Penfield, N.Y. throughout their marriage, and in 2008 Eleanor moved to North Carolina to be near her family after the death of her husband in 2006. Eleanor’s lifelong interests included golf, needlework, ballroom dancing, flower gardening and jazz music. She volunteered many hours at the Penfield symphony orchestra.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Gregory Allen Neyhart, and his wife, Clara Danziger, of Chapel Hill, as well as two grandchildren, Emily Clara Neyhart and Christopher Cole Neyhart, of Chapel Hill.
