North Carolina Children’s Hospital announced this month that Talecris Biotherapeutics was awarded the hospital’s first-ever Curtis Media Group Service to Children Award, which recognizes companies for extraordinary commitment to the state’s children through their support of the Children’s Hospital.
Having donated nearly $120,000 to the Children’s Hospital over the past three years, Talecris was chosen for this distinction in part for its financial support; but Crystal Miller, director of the N.C. Children’s Promise, said the award is about much more than money.
“We have several corporate partners whose monetary support exceeds the amount we’ve received from Talecris,†Miller said. What truly sets Talecris apart, she said, is the spirit of volunteerism the company instills in its employees. “Talecris employees have accounted for about 20 percent of our 500-plus volunteers at the past three radiothon/telethons. That’s huge, not only from the manpower perspective, but because those volunteers get a firsthand opportunity to develop an emotive and very personal relationship with the Children’s Hospital.â€
