Posted on March 25, 2010March 25, 2010 by Staff

University Lake and the Cane Creek Reservoir will reopen for boating, fishing, picnicking, sunbathing and other recreation at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

OWASA has designated Saturday as Lightning Brown Day in honor of the late community activist and member of the OWASA board. All boat-rental, boat-launching and lake-use fees except for boats with electric trolling motors will be waived for the day.

Later in the season, University Lake will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, while the Cane Creek Reservoir will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The University Lake recreation area is at the end of University Lake Road, which can be reached via Old Fayetteville Road, south of Jones Ferry Road. The Cane Creek Reservoir is about eight miles west of Carrboro on the north side of N.C. 54.
