Though a section of N.C. 87 in Pittsboro will close on April 19, officials say the project will not restrict local access to the area. The road closing will allow for the construction of a roundabout in front of the new Chatham Community Library. N.C. 87 serves as an important channel for Pittsboro residents to reach their homes, businesses and facilities like the Department of Social Services. Sanford Construction, the contractors tackling the roundabout project, will create a service road along the east side to address local traffic-flow needs.
The estimated completion date for the project is Aug. 17.
