The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department has scheduled two free post-tax season secure-shredding opportunities so you can safely dispose of old financial and personal records (but check with your accountant first, ok?). Orange County residents – or those living in the Chapel Hill portion of Durham County – and local government employees can destroy and recycle their personal confidential documents at no cost at two Shred-A-Thons:
• Thursday, April 22,10 a.m. to 2 p.m., University Mall (near Wachovia Bank). Held in conjunction with the Chapel Hill Police Department and University Mall.
• Saturday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Hampton Pointe Shopping Center, Hillsborough (behind Home Depot). Held in conjunction with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
You’re limited to 10 “banker-box†sized containers or large bags of paper per person and one trip per person. Be sure to remove all plastic bags, plastic binders, folders, computer disks, laminated paper or any other non-paper materials.
