Phillips Middle School students place at regional competition

Three math teams from Phillips Middle School placed in the Regional State Mathematics Contest held at Wake Technical Community College on March 25. Two students, Alex Chang and Ben Taylor, have qualified to compete in the state finals.

The Algebra I Team of Yize Dong, Catherine Farmer, Rachael Kang and Corey Risinger placed ninth. Dong placed 23rd in individual competition.

The Geometry Team of Alex Chang, Carolyn Chang, George Hito and Vincent Lai placed third. Alex Chang finished third individually. Hito placed 10th individually and Carolyn Chang placed 20th.

The Algebra II Team of Kathy Dai, Meghana Holegadde, Alan Liu, Koya Osada, Anshul Subramanya and Jingya Zhang took seventh place. Subramanya placed 12th individually, while Osada placed 13th.

Ben Taylor was on the school’s Comprehensive Team. He placed fourth individually.

Thirty-three middle and high schools took part in the contest.
